About Design Thinking

What is Design Thinking?

“Design thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user’s need, challenge assumptions, and re-define problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding. At the same time, design thinking provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It is a way of thinking and working as well as a collection of hands-on tools and design methods.”

“Design thinking revolves around a deep interest in developing an understanding of the people for whom we’re designing the products or services. Design Thinking being contextual and not fixed template based methodology, it helps us to observe the user in their context and to develop empathy with the target user. Design thinking helps us in the process of questioning: questioning the problem, questioning the assumptions, and questioning the implications. Design thinking is extremely useful in tackling problems that are ill-defined or unknown, by re-framing the problem in human-centric ways, creating many ideas in brainstorming sessions, and adopting a hands-on approach in prototyping and testing. Design thinking also involves ongoing experimentation: sketching, prototyping, testing, and trying out concepts and ideas.”

About Why Design Thinking

Design and Innovation processes are evolving from simple design to successful business model now a days. “Today, when people talk about Innovation they really mean Design” – Business Week.

In 2022, Design Thinking Methodologies will be the most favorable problem solving tool in the World. Now a days most of the technology companies like Apple, IBM, Google, Samsung have been using this methodology for creating their innovative products. In the varsities like Stanford, Harvard & MIT, it is being taught to integrate theory learning with practical approach. At India front, it is being endorsed by NITI AAYOG to create more entrepreneurs and register maximum patents with innovations done with Design Thinking methodology.

About how it works

HOW Design Thinking?

It consists of mainly 3 phases known as

01.

Inspiration

02.

Ideation

03.

Implementation

In these 3 phases
It consists of 5 steps/phases as follows

It is not necessary one has to follow this sequence during Design Thinking practice. These phases are iterative in nature. One may follow it in parallel or in sequence. Hence it is not a sequential step by step process. It can easily understood by below picture.
